Hi All... posting this in the main forum, as while the concert is sold out, it's of particular interest..

Tomorrow night in NYC at Merkin Concert Hall there is a *huge* concert to honor the great and magical Howard Johnson. No tuba player's career has ever been like Howard's....

It's a gala fundraiser for the Interschool Orchestras of New York and features, Taj Mahal, the Levon Helm Horns, the BearTones (Howard's bari sax band), and of course an expanded version of GRAVITY! as well as a mass tuba ensemble...players from all over have come to pay homage to the great and beloved HoJo.

Yesterday's rehearsal was amazing...

the expanded version of Gravity includes:

Randy Andos
Velvet Brown
Joseph Daley
Joe Exley
Earl McIntyre
Marcus Rojas
Jon Sass
Ben Stapp
Bob Stewart
Keith Walton
(note: this personnel list is incomplete, I will try to update it at a later date)

Here is a link to the event's program for those interested:

I'll update the info here with more media and memories as it happens... check Facebook posts too...

Wow.

HJ+Gravity played a concert in my hometown at some point in the early or mid nineties. I had the distinct pleasure of having a short conversation with Mr. Johnson after the performance. It was a surprise to me and I didn't take any notes, but I dimly recall talking about J.J. Johnsons Brass Orchestra album.

Any chance that there will be a live recording available somewhere?

Cheers,
Frank
