Nice.

Is that the new one?
You know, sometimes I really do wonder if I could cut it with just a large F tuba, and play the $#!@ out of it. Haven't been brave enough to try it yet. But the one F tuba that I owned like 10 years ago was a hell of a lot of fun.

Very nice tuba playing in the band video! Strong yet unobtrusive and on the beat!!

I did for about a decade before buying my C this spring, with the 181 no less.

Interesting. What are your thoughts on this since the spring?

I haven't played my 181 much since, mostly because I've been acclimating myself to playing C again, and because everything I've done so far (summer band, orchestra, and a pit) has sat better on the C.
The couple times I have picked it up, it felt like a peashooter (probably because my C is a 6/4). I probably could go back to just using it as my only horn if needed, though.

I'd love to own another F tuba, and play it a TON. I actually considered it this last time around
Problem is, that historically I end up playing in large bands that either I'm the only tuba player, or I'm the only strong player. In which case, adding a strong F tuba just isn't exactly the best thing for the ensemble.
If I had a more reasonable application for it, I'd definitely want another F!

If I needed a reasonable application for an instrument, I would not own a thing. I want it, I get it. I do not see them as tools but toys to enjoy. I have four Bbs and Three Ebs for tubas. Lot of other toys that make me happy when I play them as well. I am 68, and tomorrow I will play my third paid gig ever. And until last Summer I had not played with anyone since college, TubaChristmas aside. Now I am in two bands, One with Sax, one with Tuba, only because I have played for no good reason then I wanted to for almost 50 years.
Go Buy that F tuba!

You might be surprised by how many reasonable applications you can find after you buy one.

Any application is reasonable if you can find a reason for it.

Perhaps here you may find one of the reasons.....
Enjoy anyway.

Sehr gut!
Love it. Even better to hear this stuff without a mic rammed down the bell... But hey, that's just how it goes most of the time.
So... Besides the 181, what is a good model F tuba to play as if it were a big BBb?
