Production for many models had been moved to Boehm and Meinl in Germany for decades, so I wonder how much product was actually done in NY and how much was selling off existing stock when Grand Rapids was closed for the other models. The simplified product line would seem to support this.

Is there any information out there on what happened with the tooling, designs, and other items? I don't know if they actually had mandrels for bells that big though, which were probably all made from sheet brass. It's just such a shame that such a great brand of brass instruments pretty much faded into the ether, while at the same time pretty much EVERY company that makes tubas has to make a York CC "Chicago" style tuba.
