Duet for Tuba and Oboe

Post by gslindstrom »

I would like to play a duet with a good friend who plays oboe. We'd like something running 8-12 minutes and are willing to transcribe one or both of the parts. We'd like something more "classical" than "novelty", but everything is on the table right now. We are also considering having something commissioned, but first things first. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

A number of Bach's piano inventions work well as wind instrument duets. There are a few good legible versions on IMSLP.

The only tuba/oboe duet I'm aware of is Sy-Anita.

I bought it while dating an oboist and it's...ok, I guess?

I’ve transposed a few such duets, the most successful was Jesu Joy Of Mans Desiring, followed by Sound Of Silence. I’m not much at arranging. I’m kind of itching to try The Lion Sleeps At Night or Elvira. I play both the oboe and the tuba, and taught my youngest to play oboe. Since then there’s been much teenaged percussionism rather than a sensible wind instrument, necessitating the creation of a music ‘studio’ in the garage.

There is one written by Sy Brandon call Pinocchio Portraits. You can find it on Sheetmusicplus.com

Not too difficult as I recall.

I've done the Beethoven duos with an oboe player in the past. Great music and a bit challenging but lots of fun. They play the violin part and you play the cello part.
