Looks like an elderly Eb, If it says New Haven, could it have belonged to the Coast Guard Band? I think that's where they are stationed.

The seller provided this info:

AmenDolabros BBb 3 Valve P21452 <1920 brass Bell 21"- 35" high New Haven Ct

That's a cool site with a boat load of vintage brass.

I wouldn't want to argue with the seller.... provided he is a tuba player. However, I agree with JLB... I think THAT horn is an Eb.

Just read a commercial history of New Haven last week, and it didn't mention any brass manufacturers, so this might be some house brand.

Looks like an Eb to me, too.

The Coast Guard Band is besed in New London, an hour east of New Haven.

If you double the piping, it would pass for a twin to my sons' 1920 BBb Conn

It's not uncommon for Eb tubas to be incorrectly identified. Someone says "blow the open bugle, and see what note it plays". Non-tuba player manages to get a note out, plinks around on the piano and figures out what note it is. "Bb". A quick sanity check tells him that's a common key, so he (understandably) assumes that's what he's got.

Joe Baker, who agrees -- this sucker's an Eb

Or look at the valve tubing; especially the 3rd valve...
