So is there a quality level difference between these conns or just key and bell size?looking for a quintet/dixie horn around this size but i wouldn't mind a BBb if the quality is the same level...Richard Murrow?...

Same, as far as I can tell. Good intonation & response, but smaller than I am comfortable with for dixieland. You'll like it if you don't need to compete with a loud drummer.

I guess i should clarify. My dixie group is really only a trio. Banjo,guitar, and me.My 6/4 holton sounds good with the group,but it's a lot of work on a 3 hour gig.Looking for something more efficient with a little more clarity...

Hi Mike! I too play in a dixie trio (banjo, trumpet, and tuba). I've been using my Yammy 621 CC with the group and many other things I play in. It's easy to play, light-weight and puts out plenty of sound. It can get blatty in the low end, but I don't play a lot in the low register with the trio. Plus, it has strap rings ideally located. I use a basic strap and have no problem with 3-4 hour standing gigs.[/url]

the "Honky-tonk" trio I play in is piano/percussion/tuba.

I was looking for a King 1241/2341 recording-bell until the Helicon came around. I like using a Helicon a lot. But I love those old Kings!! You can play 'em all night long. They play well in tune, they are rugged, and they don't weigh a ton (although the detachable bell version which is most common carries alot of weight up top).

Those smallish Conn CC's (3J/2J) are nice if you play CC! lots of folks are using them in small ensembles...Ray Stewart (MAE) and Brian Wollf (Drums&Tuba), etc....I haven't seen too many Conn BBb (5j) for the same application
