Dillon visit report

When I found myself suddenly w 24 free hours in Newark (thank you, United...), there was little doubt I was going to Dillons. Great to see Matt, as always...

I played:
Eastman yamayork clone and 4/4
Bruckner
Tuono
Martin cut CC
Ursus
Pt6p

The Eastman 6/4 was the very clear winner of the batch - very responsive/colorful, extremely fun to play. I didn’t buy one, but was very impressed. I’d recommend one for anyone shopping. Matt’s got a few, so he can give you options and tweak it if needed.

Thanks to Matt for letting me practice for a few hours on an extended layover!

Ymmv, hope these comments are helpful-
Jim

Awesome! If you really want to sit down with some horns, weekdays are DEFINITELY the better option. Saturdays are NUTS with people in and out all the time. How was the Martin cut CC? Someone was asking about it before I believe.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up the beat up Yamaha YEB-321 they had a while back. Would have been a great learner horn for Eb.

I love the Martin sound, and this horn has got it.
That said, it wasn't quite at the level of refinement (playability, intonation, response, etc) of the other more-modern horns I played yesterday (or of my mid '60s 4v 186, for that matter).
