The only places I know that possibly carry these kind of models in stock are in Germany.
Thomann and/or FMB-direkt
If you decide to make a trip check out what they have in stock (obviously)
The nice part is that you can compare these models next to each other

Buckeye Brass & Winds in Plain City, OH has a Fafner on the floor right now. I can officially confirm as I was in the shop this afternoon for an instrument pick-up. Here's the listing:

Rob Phillips and his team are great folks who handle all my personal and school (I'm a band director) repairs.
Good luck!

One of my favorite vids he's done... I LOVED the sound he produced with it.

My unit at Ft Bragg owns two Fafners. I don't like a lot of 5/4+ tubas, but I like the Fafner a lot. Blows very easy across all registers. In particular, I've enjoyed how easily pitches lock in at and above the 7th partial. Not nearly as "slippery" as a lot of horns I've played. I also adore the valves - some of the lightest and smoothest rotaries I've ever touched.

I have a GR55, which I like very much. If you're ever visiting the Ann Arbor/Detroit area, you are more than welcome to hang out in my studio and have at it. I'll also have it and two other nice BBbs (a Martin/Buescher 6/4 built by Martin Wilk and a 1924 Holton Helicon rebuilt by Wilk) at Lee Stofer's shop in Iowa for service March 15-17, if that's any easier. I have quite a few videos on YouTube of the GR55 in action with my ragtime orchestra and playing etudes. Etudes are under my name William Pemberton and the orchestra is under River Raisin Ragtime Revue.
