What kind of instruments are they playing?

So I don't know if there are any musical instrument historians out there, but our local historical society posted this photo the other day. We have a bunch of band geeks that have put together a marching band for the local 4th of July parade and feel a kinship with these gentlemen from the 1880's-1890's (which is where they think the photo is from). We're trying to figure out some of the instruments they are playing including if the biggest one is really considered a tuba...

Interesting post, as I have a similar photo showing my hometown's (Stephenville, TX) town band ca. 1890, at some kind of event in front of the old courthouse. The detail isn't as good as your pic, but I have wondered about the large horns, whether they are tubas, baritones, saxhorns etc. All of the instruments are interesting.

Who'd've thought you could open carry a brass instrument that far back!?

So I just went down the internet rabbit hole and bought this. I have no idea what key it's in and it'll probably need some restoration given this band played where we have our 4th of July parade and there is a definite Wild West vibe to Truckee, it could be kind of fun...
