Bort should be a "pioneer" and should order an A1DA or A1MA and let everyone else know.

It appears that the "1" model has an inner dimension of 32.5 mm. The other models are too small so I wouldn't bother there.
They would all appear to the same rim shape and backbore (yeah for options ).
The variances appear to be (1) the model number which changes the embouchure opening and (2) the depth (I'm assuming that "S M D" means shallow medium deep).

Then again, I don't know jack.

^ Thanks, cjk... The only mention of them on here is from our late Danish friend, Klaus... who just mentioned briefly that he had an Elsberg mouthpiece. Nothing beyond that.

Yes, the A1DA would be the model that I would choose for myself, but yeah, 32.5 mm is still a bit small, even as the top-end. If the rim is not too wide or round, and if the backbore isn't too small... might be worth trying one. It is pretty.

Not many options or variety here either, only 1mm increments of diameter... but through a few emails with the "K" of "K&G", I learned that sometime this year(?) they plan to release them in 0.5mm increments. Which is good, because jumping from 32.5mm to 33.5mm is a HUGE jump, which probably jumps past a huge number of tuba players' preferences.

BTW, why is it so expensive to ship a mouthpiece from Europe?! €53?

It depends on the vendor and possibly the country. I've had stuff (not a mouthpiece) shipped from the UK and France that didn't cost much at all.

No, Denmark has DKK, all the Scandinavian countries except for Finland have kroner.

Their currencies are rather closely tied to Euro, though.

Price is like 127 euro. Then add about 60 euro shipping.

No, we don't have to pay VAT. So when we see a price listed for European buyers, when we select "United States" as the shipping country, then the prices go way down for the product. And the shipping prices go way up. Something like a mouthpiece, they pretty much cancel each other out.

I emailed the company above about the mouthpiece, and indirectly, it sounds like they aren't being made anymore and that they bought out/are selling the remaining stock. They are checking something for me... maybe I'll get one, just because. But we'll see! If I do, I'll write about it here, that's for sure.

Jack and Jill went over the hill and took their mouthpiece with them. If anything, there are too many J&J mouthpieces someone is trying to sell.

I see a few of the trumpet mouthpieces here in Berlin and I would say they were a nicer version of bach mouthpieces with beautiful machining, although they looked more like the old 1960s conn shell design.

I believe the tuba sizes are based on Bach, Conn and Dennis Wick dimensions, but I'll find out more.

My recollection was that Elsberg was a well known trumpet player and mouthpiece maker in Kopenhagen especially from the 60s to 80s. I believe he has either passed away or is very old. The workshop was eventually closed or taken over sometime in the 2000s by Gottfried who seems to have the remaining stock.

I ordered an A1DA, and it arrived a few days ago. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but will write about it when I get a chance.

From the outside, it looks like prettier Helleberg. The rim is flatter and less wide than I remember from a Helleberg. Also seems to have a sharper inner rim, and is kind of lightweight? Like Louis said, the machining is really well-done, and I think the engraving is cool, too.

Will let you know how it plays! (And no, I don't have a Conn Helleberg here to use as a comparison.)

I had a chance to play the Elsberg for a little while today... It's a nice mouthpiece!

Easy to play and very responsive. As expected, very Helleberg-ish. Inner rim is very sharp, like surprisingly sharp... And I like sharp mouthpiece rims! Low register pops. It is also pretty looking.

That said, I'm probably going to sell it. I do like it, but am starting to collect too many mouthpieces.
