Small(er) Ensemble Pieces with Tuba?

Post by CrownTuba02 »

The orchestra I play with is looking for small ensemble rep to perform in the fall in case the COVID-19 situation keeps us from performing as a full orchestra. They're mainly considering pieces that have less than 30 or less than 20 members. Does anyone know of chamber orchestra/ small wind ensemble rep that has tuba on it that would work for this?

The Lind recording of this is fun. I’m pretty sure I played the quintet part (on bass trombone) behind a (now) well-known tuba player back when I was late teens and he was early 20s.

Homage to Federico Garcia Lorca by Silvestra Revueltes

Three Penny Opera by Kurt Weill

Brugel Dance Visions by Arthur Rubinstein (solo tuba with chamber orchestra) may not be what you’re looking for.

It’s not the most exciting piece/tuba part in the world, but “Symphonies of Wind Instruments” by Stravinsky would fit the bill with about 20-25 wind players.

Did some of the Grainger repertoire get scaled down for small wind ensemble?
