I know I am stretchin it on this one but have you thought about using a school horn for a little while? I know noone likes it but they are not too terrible as long as you take care of it.

Why not sell the HB? I'm sure the used price for a HB, would give you enough scratch to put a serious dent in the cost of a 186, if not cover the cost entirely!

Personally, I took out a loan through a credit union to purchase my tuba during my sophomore year of college. I drained what little cash I had and paid 235 a month for a few years. Bottom line IMHO, better to take out a loan and buy a horn you'll keep then to constantly mess around with "ok" horns.

I just got my Mira 186 and that was a student loan. Now some will say that student loans are bad but it got me my horn and I've got 10 years to pay it back. I don't know if you have any student loans but I'd check them out. Good luck!!

I went thru my credit union and got a fair rate. I paid it off and now the horn is mine. It can be done, but I did it long after I graduated.

Just be sure you can follow their terms. Nothing would suck worse than having your tuba repossesed.

I hope you don't really mean a welder. The heat it takes to weld would melt a tuba...i think.....

You can pay 50% down to me, and I'll purchase the instrument for you and finance the other 50% of the amount.

Joe, you thinkin' about entering a new line of work?

You can pay 50% down to me, and I'll purchase the instrument for you and finance the other 50% of the amount.

The terms are as follows:

1/ I will hold on to the instrument as collateral until the complete debt is paid.
2/ The interest rate is 21% per annum.
3/ Payments are due monthly beginning immediately for 120 months (10 years), and the pre-payment penalty is 250% of the balance due + 100% of the down payment.
4/ If any payment is missed, 200% of the balance (including interest and pre-payment penalties) is due on demand. Default will dictate immediate repossession. Any legal fees incurred to collect the balance will be paid by the borrower.
5/ Once all of the payments have been made as specified above, the tuba will be surrendered to you for your use.
6/ The financier cannot be held responsible for wear-and-tear of any items held in collateral.

Bloke, if you made your terms one font-size smaller, you'd have people lined up around the block to take you up on your offer!

Maybe I'm stupid or just a sucker for older horns.

But that HB doesn't look too awful to me. If it were my horn, I'd happily drop a couple of grand getting it spiffed up. I mean, what does a NEW HBS-192 go for nowadays?
