Anybody ever played one of these? I believe Wilson makes one and possibly Hirsbrunner, but how much different is the sound than the standard reciever; if you are used to playing a bass trombone mouthpiece?

There is a large shank receiver on the Willson 2950, different Besson models, and the Hirsbrunner is also a large shank. Most mouthpiece companies offer all of their models in either a small, medium (european), and large shank. Most of the difference is in matching the large bore horn with a larger shank size. I have seen a Willson 2900 with a large shank - I think it was a conversion, though...

Don't forget the not-so-lowly Weril H980--and my Willson 2975/CB-30 came stock with a bass-shank receiver.

I have heard that Willson does offer a 2900 with a bass trombone shank, and it has just recently been available in the last 3 years or so. The 2950 is a large shank horn as well. However, if you are looking for a large shank euphonium to use the same mouthpiece for, say, your concert tenor bone, then I actually found it pointless. I like to use a certain mouthpiece for my euph and a certain piece for my trombone. Plus, it's actually easier (and possibly cheaper) to find two mouthpieces for both instruments. I play lead tenor in big bands, and found that a much smaller mouthpiece did not feel any differently when I played, although I still hear that it's a large piece for lead bone. I used a different mouthpiece because it's a different horn, and it would react differently to each instrument.
After receiving my 2900 and buying both the Mead and Bowman mouthpieces to try out, and getting a Warburton for my trombone, I have no regrets and would not change anything, and anyone that knows me could tell you that I am super poor and don't have much money to throw around.

Yamaha 641, 642 and 842 come with the large shank (or bass trombone) receiver. Willson 2900 sold in the US is only available in the European shank.
Hirsbrunner comes with interchangeable receivers.
