What's nice about The One Hundred and the old Torchinsky books is the insight and commentary from an experienced orchestral player. You'll get some of the same from your college teacher too. A lesson with Wes Jacobs probably would run more than $45...so for me it's worth it. But also I have more disposable income than a "poor" undergrad. No offense meant to you and whatever your means might be, but I know $25 for a music book (adjusted for past inflation) for undergrad me was quite a stretch. FWIW, I didn't rush out to purchase it soon after it was published, I wanted to see it in person first.

Another one to look at in addition to the “100” is the Peters Edition Orchester Probespiel German excerpts book;

Add the Torchinsky 20th Century excerpts book (admittedly rare but does turn up occasionally) and you’ve got pretty much all the important/ regularly auditioned stuff
