Is Altieri still in business?

I was told....
They were bought out by a company in North Carolina that makes (I forget... flute stuff? Other instrument cases?). They are planning to redesign and re-release Alteiri bags at some point in the future. Except for tuba bags. They are too much work, all custom, and just not cost effective.
Might have a few details mixed up, but that's basically it.
Frankly, I've always thought the Alteiri drawstrings were a disaster. If you need a new gig bag, consider Superfine... An excellent tuba bag, made by a tuba player. Top lever protection and build quality, top or side loader. Also... Short wait times. Happy to tell you more if you'd like. Or to shut up, if you'd like that more!

The pictures of the top-loading bag seem to have the music pocket on the back side. That seems like a great idea, since it's the flatter (or even concave) side of the tuba, anyway.

Yes, that's where the music pouch is.
Frankly, I never liked the pouch on the Cronkhite bags being on the front. I had real concerns about walking through NYC and being on the subway with my tuba on my back... a few small snaps or a quick zipper pull, and all my stuff would be gone. So, I just never used that pouch anyway.
Besides function, it's looks quite svelte look to have nothing on the front.

My first two Altieri bags were wonderful. I called Donna and we talked about exactly what I needed and I received exactly what I needed. After that, not so much.
