In the For Sale section I have listed a Conn Naked Lady euphonium. I have a question mentioned therein about serial numbers of military instruments. Anyone know about this?

I'm not aware of a special "military" sequencing for Conn. Is the serial number preceded by a letter?

With the pictures provided, it is way too small to see construction detail on my screen. The bell engraving is perhaps 40-50 yrs later than the number given. If one could see the bracing style, one could decide quickly if it was more likely that the bell was replaced or that the number was misread. The "U.S." horns that I have (including a silver "naked lady" Conn sousaphone) do NOT indicate any special numbers, but have contemporary numbers for both the WWI and WWII periods.

Is this horn really a euphonium, or a baritone? It looks awfully small and too cylindrical to be a euphonium.

I'm not certain about euphs and tubas, but the 'Naked Lady' engraving was introduced in 1930 on saxophones. I suspect that your serial number is missing a '2', '3', or even perhaps a '4' on the front of it... placing the date of manufacture between 1929 and 1947... or maybe even as late as 1954. I don't think the horn is from the very early 1900's unless the bell has been replaced. I have a 1923 Conn euph that is engraved GC Conn... with no 'Naked Lady'.
