I'm playing a reynolds contempora fiberglass sousaphone.

(Probably the least glamorous horn you could get, but for now, she's my baby.)

Anyway, any reccommendations on a mouthpiece that would be a good match for this horn? I'm currently playing with a Vincent Bach 25, which definitely feels a bit small.

hmmmm..... I have a bass trombonist friend who uses a Bach 25 on occasion. I have one, but never use it.

Whenever I get a phone call from some parent who wants a recommendation about a mouthpiece, I liken it to a stranger calling and asking about the right size pair of shoes. Everybody's different, and so are their instruments, which explains why there are so many manufacturers making mouthpieces. A player and a reynolds Fiberglass sousie will respond differently to a mouthpiece than an HB-21.

That said, I have to feel that so far the "safest" mouthpiece for general work for most folks is the venerable Bach 18. UMI sells a knockoff of it that's cheap (about $35, I think) that would probably greatly increase your enjoyment in playing - and after all, that's what it's supposed to be all about!

I'll second the mention of the Bach 18. If you think you'll be doing any outside gigs, you might go for the even less expensive (plastic) Kelly 18. It's a copy of the Bach 18. I use one for almost all of my outside gigs.

I've got a buddy who plays Monette exclusively on his Martin stencil sousaphone. Man that thing plays.
