Rehearsals/performances restarting

Post by humBell »

For me, things are mostly closed down due to current Covid containment strategies.

One band has held rehearsals in a parking lot spread out.

I see discussion of another perhaps starting small sectionals.

Your bands doing anything, or even just thinking of it?

Any thoughts or suggestions as far as finding ways to play with folk safely?
Thanks for playing!

I'm playing in two quintets, each of which rehearses weekly. The first started playing May 30, and the second started up in mid-July. We rehearse outdoors, and print our own parts from PDFs.

Also played an outdoor concert two weeks ago.

So far, so good.

My college is doing "Zoom Rehearsals". They said we would meet in sections, and guide us through the music. Not really sure how that is going to work considering the audio limitations and latency. We're doing an individually recorded concert this semester.
"Shouldn't we all be practicing right now?"

In Denmark, I am again having reversals with both of my bands. We have space to spread out indoors. Infection rate is pretty low here, at the time being we have only some 20 persons in treatment for Covid 19 in all DK hospitals. There are restrictions for concerts, discos, games, etc. So no concert yet.

The situation in Iceland is similar - things seem to be under control at the moment.
My band starts rehearsing next week and we will be able to fit everyone into the rehearsal room with 2 m spacing. The current limit for gatherings is 100 people, which is fine for the band but obviously excludes giving concerts.

In the Netherlands rehearsals are allowed again within a rather strict set of regulations of the national federation of wind bands (confirmed by the Ministry of Health).
For concerts the maximum audience is 100 persons without a health check at the entrance, unlimited with health check AND a distance of 1,5 m between individuals.

We are just starting indoor rehearsals with our local wind band. Before that we had done few outdoor during summer after restrictions allowed to play again in groups. Instead of our own place we can use the local church which allows us practising within the space and distance rules.

Our goal is to do a concert during advent season, either with or without audience. Current rules would allow smaller audiences with distance within bigger facilities.

Lots of bands in NYC are rehearsing again in parks giving each other plenty of space. Everyone wears masks and our numbers are fairly low

A brass quintet from one of the orchestras I’m in performed outdoors last week in NJ. We really enjoyed seeing each other, and playing in a group again. Members of the orchestra came out to hear us, say hello.

Glad to hear life continues!

A live streamed concert happened with my one group, and now as is my habit, i stop thinking of rehearsals after a concert. I may make the next few or not, as i sort out my plans.

I think another group has sectionals under way, but no one has pestered me to be there, so i haven't... been there.

We are going to try to start doing quintet rehearsals next week, practicing in someone's driveway. We don't have any performances lined up, but just getting together to play should be fun.
