2020 Remote Instruction

I'm a few years from retirement and an important goal is getting my chops up to the level where I could play in a professional or semi-professional quintet. Before I moved from the Chicago area to New Hampshire I was in a quintet of non-professionals that was very good from my perspective. I last had instruction in high school (1982) so I likely have some bad habits to correct first.

At first in the pandemic and lockdown, I put my plans on the back burner as my local groups went on hiatus, and I was not playing. Now I'm wondering if the current situation actually allows me to get a great instructor with remote instruction that normally would require a masters program and/or travel. Any recommendations for instructors or programs?

I have been giving Skype lessons for several years, and now Zoom, with a focus on the mechanics of brass playing and fixing embouchure issues. Efficiency is important, in the way you play and in the way you practice.

I’ve also been teaching remotely! Would love to work with you. Shoot me a message if you’d be interested in some lessons.

I think it’s safe to assume that every musician is giving Skype lessons at the moment. If I were you, I would spend some time trying to figure out who is a player you admire, then reaching out to them for lessons
