top exzerpts list

Post by kathott »

I've been banging through the music of the MASTERs shedding these exzerpts, but am constantly being passed over for spots. I don't get this. I have been playing a long time, praised for my high tone, and conductors say that they can always hear me, especially in the soft stuff. PRO TIP: high notes are a cinch for me, but if something is too high, I just take it down an octave and no one ever knows.

THE PIECES (had to copy some out by hand)
Wagner - parts of Lohengrin (generally not very interesting)
Smetana - Richard III Overture
Dvorak - New World Symphony (count!)
Debussy - The Ocean
Stravinsky - Threni (really weird)
Bruckner - Das hohe Lied (I think this is in German, not sure)
Mascagni - L'Amico Fritz (Overture)
Hayman - Pops Hoedown (really good solo)
R. Strauss - Four Last Songs (there is someone singing through this entire
piece)
Delius - The Walk to the Paradise Garden (sort of like Copland)
Sibelius - Karelia Suite (should really be for concert band)
P. Tchaikovsky - The Voyevoda (whoa)
Mahler Sym. #4 (cannot locate a part for this)

My homemade ‘exzerpty’ book has fulfilled it’s original purpose by a country mile, filling in obvious gaps in the standard repertoire. I’ve mastered these, and my student (only have one at the moment) is clamouring for a second volume. Stay tuned.
