About a year ago I wondered if anybody knew anything about «Herold» tubas...? Seems the mighty internet is lost on the subject...
Has anybody got any info?

From Horn-u-copia:
“ There were several Herolds, two of which were recorded as brass makers. Conrad Gustav of Klingenthal (1793-1900) and Fritz of Aschaffenburg (1854-?). ”

Thanks! That’s interesting. My instrument is much newer...I would guess from the 1970s. It is definitely not a high end horn, rather something inexpensive to be used in school marching bands. The brass is very light weight. There is no serial number or any indication whatsoever of where it might have been manufactured. Anyway, it’s fine with me. I can use it in trad jazz or rock settings, and it sounds just fine...better than expected.
