I'm an Eb bass player in Australia and have been thinking a lot about what instrument to save up for. I've played on a lot of version of B&H and Boosey compensating Eb's, as well as a few Neo examples which all had their good and bad points. However, I have been looking lustfully at the simple beauty of the Yamaha 621 range.
Does anyone know the reason behind this style of tuba not getting the Eb treatment? I know that companies like Eastman and Wessex have similar versions. The Eastman EBE853 is compensating, which is fine, however they are somewhat elusive, and Wessex have the Gnagey and Cavalry (non and compensated respectively), however the Gnagey I have held didn't fit well with me, and the Cavalry has one of those massive 19" bells which I loathe.
Is there a horn I have missed? It's not often you see anything other than a Yamaha or Boosey in Australia, so that may well be the case.

Eb isn’t as popular worldwide. And Yamaha tends to cater to the masses. I to wished Yamaha offered a front action Eb their 621, 821, 822 series are great. If you like that style and size look at the Willson 3400 compact or Besson 984 both my favorite horns currently on the market and probably on the more rare side in use...

I have come across the Willson, however I don't think I've ever spotted one in the wild. Same with the 984, which was one that caught my eye, however it seems to have been pulled from the Besson website.
Yamaha do certainly have a market, and I have always enjoyed playing their euphoniums and trombones, but the Neo doesn't work for me so well. I have considered moving to C to cover all bases, but it's a lot of investment to make and retrain my hands!

The 984 is listed under the 983. I just got a quote for one. Sadly it’s way more than the Willson. Both great horns my favorites from ITEC. I’m gonna order the Willson and wait the 5 months for it to get built...AnorakHorn wrote: ↑Thu Dec 10, 2020 9:56 pm I have come across the Willson, however I don't think I've ever spotted one in the wild.
