From time to time I am forced to practice at locations in my house where the ceiling is just too low to get a satisfying sound.
I started another thread a while ago about that problem and learned a lot about room acoustics from all the replies.

I learned about the final wave being unable to form above the bell when practicing in a low ceiling room.

I can overcome the acoustic problems by turning the bell sideways supporting it on my thighs, but that is a pain in the *** (or rather the back) to sit like that for a longer practice session and all in all not very recommendable in terms of breath support and tensions since I have to sit rather crumpled to reach down to the mouthpiece or supporting the weight of the horn with my left hand.

So - that made me think that maybe someone has experimented with some sort of a homemade/modified stand to support a vertical positioning of the tuba?

I've been looking at the Hercules Stands DS552B Tuba Stand which might be a way to go when modifying an excisting stand for that purpose

Probably far too expensive, I am sorry. But apparently there is a need, also for reasons of performance....

Could this perhaps be a solution?
Not sitting on a chair, but on a somewhat higher stool, holding the tuba like Oystein Baadsvik does, and wearing a saxophone harness to diminish the weight on your left arm????? To fix the sax harness to the tuba cannot be too difficult, using a strap of rope tied to one of the tuba supports.
Not sure, but hopefully of some help.

Pillow on lap will raise horn to desired height.
Especially when the stuffing is styrofoam, cherry stones or dried corn rather than feathers.

I use the three legged folding camping stools. The legs are easily lengthened or shortened by drilling new holes. The horn sits in them easily. If it slips on the canvas use a bit of rubberised material. You can fold them and stick them in the bell in a second. Yes, you must sit at the front of your seat. You can lift a small horn with a mouthpipe that is too low or of course sit a monster in them at just the right height. Amazon amazon.com/camping-stool-folding/s?k=camping+stool+folding.
