Quartet scores for 4 Danish Whitsuntide hymns uploaded

Post by imperialbari »

My project of presenting Danish seasonal hymns now has 4 hymns for the Whitsuntide uploaded. One of them is rather a praise to Christianity and has a Norwegian composer. More on that in the programme note file in the information folder shared by the whole project, which also has a preface on the various score types and suggestions on how to combine the scores into large mixed ensembles:

or in short form

There are 9 fully compatible playing scores for

C, F, Bb, and Eb brasses (clarinets, saxophones) in treble and bass clefs (tuba/trombone, brass, horn, and several more quartets)

strings

recorders

flute choir (SSAB or SSSA)

plus

organ and guitars as sort of "continuo"

The 4 last types of scores have mutually compatible Easy-Key scores for the hymns, where the keys or the ranges get nasty on these instruments.

The 3 Romantic-era hymns are written as hymns, whereas the late renaissance hymn very well may have started out as a dance tune. To the boot it has a very interesting tonality: it is written in the Phrygian mode.

The music within this project undoubtedly has worship in mind. But it also can be played for its purely musical qualities. Response from non-Danes has noted the harmonies, which are different for other national traditions.

As the editor was a teacher, he cannot avoid mentioning, that these hymns also provide great material for ensemble building. They present very varied situations of harmony and balance, plus of course intonation, in short forms.

There may be more seasonal hymn uploads, but the immediate plans more point towards the editor picking his own favourites among the "all-purpose" hymns.

My download homepage has a link for the index of all my uploaded music files. You can download them for free, when I have received your reply to my "Welcome"-mail. Players already approved of course have direct access.
