I once owned Charles Daellenbach's Schilke C-tuba he used with the Canadian Brass in the early '80s. Yes... the "Flight of the Bumblebee" one from "The Village Band."
It was the last instrument Renold Schilke personally worked on.
It was 24K plated, and came with a crimson red Yamaha rolling case. Also, had a 2" maple leaf on the horn joint at the bottom.
No... that shitty plastic-rimmed Yamaha / Canadian Brass mouthpiece didn't come with it. I used a vintage Schilke / Helleberg when I played it.
(I met the CB boys many times in the '90s. Nobody wanted those stupid plastic rimmed mouthpieces, GIMMIE BACH MEGA TONE! I stuck with the good, old-fashioned stand by.)
Bought it for around $5,000 in 1994 from a horn teacher who was close to the Brass, traded it for a new Miraphone in 1999.
It was one of the best horns I've ever payed. Seriously... a WONDERFUL HORN.
Do I regret trading it?
No.
Do I wonder what happened to it?
Yes.
Do YOU have it?
