We are preparing for another desert adventure and I was wondering, what type of valve and slide oils would you reccomend for high temperatures(100-130 degrees). We are had many difficulties last time with our valves and I am hoping to avoid the same problems this time. Thanks for your input.

If you look at the chart of the valve oils and their evaporation rates (and from prior experience), I would say go for Alisyn. It evaporates extremely slowly comared to other oils. Only a couple drops worked in will last a while...you can't reapply daily, or it'll build up. However you also need to completely clean your horn before putting it on, and DON'T mix it with ANY other oils.

A GOOD synthetic oil is in order. I used to use Alisyn until I began having problems with both the cost and the fact that it doesn't mix well with other oils. I've used Hetman's classic for a couple of years now in both very hot and also very cold environments and have had no problems.

Hetman oil works for me. On the days our tuba-euph quartet practices my euph sometimes has to stay in the trunk of my black car all day in the north Texas heat (95-100F often in July & August). I just oil them as usual before playing and have no problems. No buildup noticed yet.

Hetman's also gives me the fastest action, with no sticking. Knock on wood.
