There are quite a number of plastic mouthpieces available on the market.

You can get metal mouthpiece with a screw-on plastic rim.

This does not directly answer your question but it's an alternative.

A refurb and replate is a good idea, and a reputable workshop will do it with better quality silver than the original manufacturer, also with some options for customising your mouthpiece. I did it with one of mine and the cost was less than getting a new mouthpiece of the same model

Try some clear fingernail polish. Heck dream large and use bright red. ;-)

Keep in mind that it is sort of "grabby" feeling. Try it. It costs very little. It is easy to remove. Just ask a female who paints her nails. She might could put it on for you and then remove it after you are done with your experiment.

You might consider a Lexan rim. I make them in all sizes and shapes, threaded for my mouthpieces.

I highly recommend a Lexan rim. Very comfortable, and my mouthpiece (Blokepiece) weighs about half as much as it did originally
