Which mouthpiece for your 410 CC tuba

Hello All,
I am curious what mouthpiece or mouthpieces others use on a Mack Brass 410 with gold brass bell or any other 410 Miraclone for that matter.

I'd also be interested in why you use that mouthpiece:

1. To get more sound when playing with a big group

2. For more color with a tuba which can sound a little generic

3. For better intonation

4. For better high (or low) range

5. Or some other reason (agility, whatever...)

Thanks in advance! :?: :?: :?:

I use a GW Diablo. Its works exceptionally for me. Feels good, articulations are clear, easy to use in all ranges, tone's beautifully dark, tuning's fine, and gets a nice large sound for ensembles, as well as works well for some solo stuff or quintet if I ever wanted to use my CC for that (which I used to really often before acquiring my F). Works across the board, and that's what I personally was looking for.

Been using it for some time now, its literally my dream mouthpiece with this horn. Initially had a Bach 24AW from high school, but that was an awful experience when I tried to use it on the Mack, really hindered me in all ways. Quickly switched to a GW Alan Baer MVII for a while and liked it but felt it was too big and it caused me some issues due to that - this was the perfect size. And I despise the mouthpiece the horn came with.

However, mouthpieces are a very personal thing for a reason. I know a guy who hated the Diablo on all CC horns. Can't know 'till you try it out.

Hello Tuba Plexus,
Thanks for your detailed comments. The only mpc similar to what you mention that I do have now is a Benge 24AW...if that is as terrible for me as it was for you, I'll know I might want to go towards the Baer or Diablo...let's see what other people say...

I have that exact horn, and I've been using an Arnold Jacobs Heritage for over a year and find it's a really good match. Prior to that I worked through a range of PT-XX with some success, and the PT-50 was the best of that lot. Overall, though, the Jacobs is my go to for everything on the 410 now and has been for a long time. Good response, intonation, range, and sound quality.

I love the Laskey 30 or 28 G American shank on the 410. It´s wonderful that they are being made again. Good luck with your search.

Looking at the new Laskey website, it looks like you can get a 30G (med. deep funnel cup) or 30H (deep funnel cup), but the 28 is only in the H cup....so no 28G now...were you thinking only of the G cup models?

You´re right about the new Laskeys. The 30G works great. Best wishes
