Jim Self mouthpiece shank question

Greetings,

I bought Yamaha Jim Self mouthpiece and the shank is smaller than American shank. Is that correct? I bought a Roger Bobo Symphonic and Solo as well and they both enter good on my Yamaha tuba but the Self goes deeper in the mouthpiece and actually It meets the inner leadpipe giving a zero gap and It gets loose so It can easily fall out. Can someone confirm this please?

Thanks,
Jose

That chart comes from an original post by Matt Walters from many years ago that explains the shank sizes for tuba mouthpieces.

Thank you for the imput! I endeed read that post some time ago from Matt Walters. My question was that if someone knew that if the Self mouthpiece comes with a smaller shank than the american one because I have the other Bobo´s moputhpieces which are american and they enter less inside the reciver than the Self.

Thank you for your time writing here!
José

There is a lot of inconsistency in the manufacture of receivers and mouthpiece shanks. In some brands you just never know what it will be.

Some of the info on that chart is from my website and most is from Matt's post.

I make several sizes and tapers in an attempt to actually match receivers more accurately. It does make a difference, sometimes a major difference, in how a mouthpiece plays.
