balance ball chair
Has anyone ever tried to use a balance ball chair for better ergonomics?

Hey Tony,
I’ve never done it on stage, but I’ve practiced at home on a Swiss ball… I certainly sit up straighter and taller when I do!

Thanks for answering, T. J.! It must be worth it, then, to try?

Yes, I think so… of course, be careful! If you lose your balance, you can always stand up, instead of trying to regain your balance with a tuba in your lap!
The improved posture/balance/core stability should carry over when you’re back in a work/stage chair.
Of course, I’m not a physician and am not qualified to give physical advice, but anecdotally, I like it.

Re: balance ball chair
Maybe something like this, but without the wheels would be safer than just the ball itself while still helping with the benefits of using the ball?

Re: balance ball chair
Thank, Wes. An acquaintance I spoke with recently said that balancing on the ball takes extra core activity that isn't really conducive to breathing.
