Older Besson Euphonium

Hello friends,

I am looking for an older Besson or Boosey 4 valve compensating Euphonium, ideally something from the 50's through 70's. It doesn't have to be in perfect shape, but I'd like one that plays well, as there is a lot of inconsistency among those horns. I'd prefer one that isn't severely banged up, though I'm totally fine with scratches and tarnish, etc. As long as the valves are in good shape and the lead pipe isn't dented up, and there aren't major creases in the bell I can probably work with it.

If you or someone you know is sitting on one of these, and there's a possibility of parting with it, I'd love to be put in touch or start a conversation. It will be going to a good home :)

Thanks so much!

Ryan

There is a 1967 Besson 3+1 New Standard on Dave Werden’s Forum.

Remember that this era of Besson euphs used a mid-sized mouthpiece shank and receiver. Trombone/baritone mouthpiece shanks are too small. Modern euph shanks are too large. Remember that Denis Wick is the only manufacturer that still stocks these mid-sized shank mouthpieces as standard items. I have the B&H version 3-valve comp. Fortunately, the Ultra mid-sized 6 is perfect for me. It is like a 6 1/2 AL with a deeper cup and different backbore that keeps the lower range from being grainy, helps the middle register to be lyrical, and helps the upper register have more security.

I have a Besson 767 Euphonium that dates to 1969/70.

It is in good condition. 11 inch bell. Most of the silver plating has worn off.

Minor dings - but no major dents.

Let me know if still interested.
