College Level CC Tuba Buy/Trade (5 VALVES ONLY, 4/4+)

Hey everybody. I recently started school at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and my professor recommended that I try to get ahold of a different larger tuba than I have now. I currently play on a Cerveny Piggy CC, and really enjoy it. However, I do also agree that a larger horn wouldn't be a bad idea.
My desired specifications are obviously a CC horn, with at least 5 valves. I also would prefer to find something that is 5/4 size, but at least 4/4, and larger than the horn I play now.
I don't have a huge budget, but I would be willing to negotiate prices out with whoever has any potential sales, as well as make a trade for my current tuba. I would be able to part with my hard case, as long as one were included in the trade for the new horn as well.
Send me a message or post on the thread if you have anything you think might work! Let me know!

I was thinking 5 grand would be pretty much my limit without help from my parents... And that would still be tough. I could hopefully make 5 or maybe a bit more work though.

There's a 60's Alex on the for sale board. Sometimes an older miraphone 186 pops up at that price. Large rotary CCs don't usually appear at that price. Go ask Scott Mendoker at the Hartt school nicely if you could play his Eastman CC, if you like that it may be all the horn you need for some time. You could call Lee Stoner or Baltimore Brass to see what they have too.

Thanks! Keep in mind I am open to all options, and even though I prefer rotary, I definitely wouldn't turn away a nice piston horn.

There's a 5 valve Miraphone at a Sam Ash in the LA area for 5k. It comes with a real hard case, and they're willing to ship!

Is it just me, or does this look a bit fat for a 186? Maybe a 188? Either way, this looks like a fair price for what is likely to be a really good tuba.

Looks like a 188. That's a really fair price. And it has the classic 2-step fifth valve, which I like.

188 with the short lived DVS valve linkages, and the fancy triangle engraving. Fair price.

I didn't see any messages in my inbox. Maybe I just haven't gotten it yet, but would you mind trying again? Thanks!

Hello,
I'm a recent graduate of UMass Lowell, and wanted wish you the best of luck in your studies!
You picked a great school, with a very unique music department, and you will find that there are many types of playing that you can do to increase your artistic palate! Also, I learned a literal ton about tuba and music/life from studying with Jerome; I'm sure you will have a wonderful 4 (or 5 depending on how many credits per semester you take) years. It's more fun when you have a jammed course load, and also participate in 5-10 different ensembles.
Have fun!

Thanks so much! I see your tuba floating around every once and a while with Peter, so I know who you are! Lol
I'm loving it so far. I'm in wind, and because of my job that's the only ensemble I can fit for this semester, but I definitely wanna take part in as many as I can be in.

Here's my tuba for sale.
It's recently been reduced to $5,000. I'd to make a deal.
