Any condition okay. These are proving hard to come by these days. Any leads would also be appreciated.

I've never seen one for sale! You'd have more luck finding a Conn 40K I would think. I'll keep my eye out.

Ya just never know when or where one will pop up. While traveling, a friend of mine spotted one in an antique store in Spearfish, South Dakota. I called the shop and bought it sight unseen. I had to have a piston made for it but to save a horn it was worth it.

Where does one go to have a valve piston made. Just curious. I don't have a need currently, but good info to file in the back of my brain.

Years ago I had zig Kanstul make a valve for me on an old King Eb Monster.

Not sure if his son is doing that stuff anymore.

Dan Oberloh is the next obvious choice :tuba:

Nate was recommended to me by Sam Gnagey and by Martin Wilk.

In 2003, Nate made two valves for a 1921(?) Conn Grand Orchestra BBb that I wanted to bring back from the dead. Beautiful work, reasonable price, friendly service, happy tuba. (Harvey Hartman lapped-in the new valves and assembled the instrument.)

Maybe this thread should somehow be reposted to the "Repairs" forum. No doubt lots of people have wondered where to have valves made.

+1 for Nate! I've been to his shop and interviewed him for an independent study I did regarding instrument repair, design, and construction. His tuba has a valve section he built himself, from scratch! Casings, valves, everything. Very slick...
