LOOKING FOR THE ORCHESTRAL SCORE for Lebedev Concerto in One

Postby Johnathan808 » Wed Oct 25, 2017 3:37 pm

Hello, everyone.

I am looking for the orchestral score for A. Lebedev's Concerto in One Movement (the Ostrander Edition). I have seen a forum once before about this as well as searching through the internet with not much luck. All help would be grateful. I need this for a concerto competition that my college is holding at the end of November.

Thanks! :tuba:

I don't think it was ever orchestrated.
Also the Hofmeister edition doesn't have the simplifications that the Osterander arrangement has.

Since it specifies on the title page that it is for orchestra one would have to assume that it had been orchestrated at some time in the past. However, I have never once heard of it being performed with an orchestra. I am betting that the original was orchestrated but, but that the accompaniment was never published and is now likely lost. Perhaps it was a rental from a company that has disappeared, along with their catalog?

Mike, have you ever played this edition? I would like something more like the original, minus the simplifications for the trombone slide. (I am assuming this is why Ostrander arranged this with the simplifications. I have seen this but never heard it or had it in my hand long enough to really get a feel for the alterations. Would you consider it to be more complete/accurate or simply another arrangement with liberties taken? Thanks for the link. I may purchase this.

I am fairly certain an orchestration for this was done by an American in the 1970s, but that it may have been for concert band. If it was for orchestra it was probably rather rudimentary. I do not think it is available unless you know the right person, as in it is not published or available for hire.

Good luck.

Yes I did it extensively a few years ago. BTW It's easy on Bb! That's what the original would have been done on!
Who knows if it's original but there are a few places that are different.
