Looking for Advice F Tuba

Post by Johnathan808 »

Hello,

I’m looking for a good starting F tuba at the price range of $2,000-$3,000.

I’ve thought about Miraphone, B&S, MeinlWeston,Yamaha and Alexander but not sure what to get. I’ve only played an Alexander 5 valve F tub before.

In that price range, your choices are going to be limited. You will be buying a 'copy' tuba built in Asia, or something a bit, shall we say, less desirable. Most quality tubas, used, are in the $5,000 - $7,000 range. New, more towards the $10,000 range. I am not saying there are NO good instruments in your budget, but you will have fewer choices. Good luck with your search.

I have a Miraphone 180 5v F that would be right up your ally, though it is at the top of your price range.

Do you have pictures of your tuba?

This Cerveny would be a good option for a first F tuba:

No, he won't ship... but it's at the low end of your budget, so perhaps you could fly out to pick it up and stay under $3,000? I'd imagine that getting anything to Hawaii is going to be a little complicated/expensive.

I actually messaged him last week. I am considering flying to pick up the horn.
