I am seeking an EEb tuba to serve as my bass tuba. Cost is a consideration so models I am interested in include:
Wessex Danube
Wessex Gnagey
Wessex Bambino
St Petersburg 206
Miraphone 183

Hit up Matt Walters at Dillon and ask him if he has any more Eastman 851/852/853 coming in. His street prices are comparable to most of the horns you listed, but the Eastman is far superior to many of them. He might also still have a used N-Star.
I’d avoid the Danube. Intonation is supposed to be very squirrelly and the rotors have gotten quite a few complaints around here too. Other 2 are supposed to be nice players.
I don’t know the St. Pete, but you’ll sacrifice resale value. Repair parts may also be an issue depending on where you’re located.

I had a Danube, it was a great learning tuba, but a bit to squirrelly in mechanics and sound. If you can find a used Nordic Star, or a MW 2141, of the MW rotary, or a Wilson 3400, you get more 5V sound and better intonation for the money.

Thanks, I am very familiar with the various models and certainly would buy a Norwegian Star if I could afford one.
