Hey experts, I have a couple of mouthpieces with shanks that are slightly out of round at the insertion point.
I thought I read somewhere you could put a small shank (junker) trombone mouthpiece shank into the tuba shank and gently tap with a hammer on the outside of the tuba shank. Does this sound right?

Hammer down onto tool or from the side at the shank?

Re: DIY shank repair
Thanks guys. I will try the options you suggested starting with the cheapest and easiest and working my way up:
Screwdriver > trombone 'piece > specialty tool

Here is another cheap way:
you could set (not jam) the shank of the piece on some needle nose pliers and then take the convex side of a spoon and tap at the high spots until it doesn't have an obvious gap.
I would like to know more about this 2341 slide hacksawing. That sounds like it could be a good story.

Wow. Good story. One would think that assembly in a jig would lend itself to not having that particular problem. Oops.
