Resonance

Post by jmchenry »

Anyone else notice their horn sounds a little more resonant when the valves haven't been oiled in a while? It's really strange. I have a rotary valve tuba.

Interesting. I have noticed the opposite on most tubas, probably because the oil made for a better seal. I wonder if your valves are very tight and the oil acts like too much water in the tube.

In this case, a broader sound with more weight to it.
