Congrats
I eventually had my water key lengthened so I could reach it from a playing position.
Sometimes you really need to empty on the fly and this made it possible.

If you're into it, look around if you can find a water key from an old German bass trombone, the kind where you push a button and the key opens.
Slot means to me is the place where any given note centers the easiest. A wide slot means that I can push a note with ease above or below the said given slot and the note still resonates with a sound thats executable (dealers choice). A B&S Symphonie F is plays only quite in tune (the majority of the notes slot in the right place)but as well it has moderately wide slots. Any note which "slots" out of tune is quit easily played in tune (by raising or lowering the note) with little effort of the lips/wind.
A narrow slot is the opposite obviously. For me Conn's have narrow slots. So any note which "slots" out of tune a note costs a great effort to blow in tune. This is one of the reasons I sold my Conn 36J. Gorgeous sound. Too much work.

Looks great bloke! I forget, did the valve tubing need to be shortened or just reconfigured to use as a cimbasso? Or none of the above?

Perhaps there is a good reason other than 'historical tradition' and it's what Verdi wanted for wrapping a 'cimbasso' in this shape?
I'm certain you have your reasons but wouldn't this shape be easier to manage and less prone to damage?

I always thought a compact wrap similar to a recording bell tuba or old-school bell front baritone made the most sense for a contrabass valve trombone, but so far the only one I've ever seen that way was Jim Self's 'Jimbasso'.joh_tuba wrote:Perhaps there is a good reason other than 'historical tradition' and it's what Verdi wanted for wrapping a 'cimbasso' in this shape?

Maybe joh_tuba's question was; why did you choose to make the body in modern day cimbasso form and not in tuba form? Then it would sit on your lap and you wouldn't need the peg leg's (you wouldn't use a stand anyway)

Fair enough. Now the sticky question;
You mentioned your CVT having better intonation then the larger zombie mother. Is this a fruitful byproduct or did you expect ahead of time that it could be better? If you DID expect this I'm curious what brought you to this conclusion.

Re: PROJECT COMPLETED! bloke's German valveset cimbasso proj
I hope you have enough 2nd slide length to do the job.
And seeing as these instruments are oh so awkward; why not build in a cup holder.
Just sayin'.
Who knows, you might start a hype.

Now submit it to your favorite Chinese factory for the cloning process. Have an image of your face engraved on the bell flare so it is staring back at the player with a text bubble above your head that says "more air!"

A Thein cimbasso (instrument only) costs $21339

A Thein cimbasso wood mute costs $275.00 with their metal mute being about $350 higher than the wood one.
A Thein cimbasso case costs $1263.00
A 1st or 2nd slide trigger on a Thein cimbasso is optional (additional)
Shipping and insurance to get a Thein cimbasso to the USA is $623.00
...so with the case, stand, and wood mute, shipped to the USA (currency conversion fees...?? duty fees...??)
the cost for a Thein cimbasso outfit is $24038.00 ... plus whichever slide trigger is needed/recommended, so is $25,000 (complete total) a safe guess?
(My cimbasso has a #2 slide trigger for the 2-4 fingered pitches, as well as for the 5-2-3-4 low G.)
I wonder (??) if the Thein plays as well as mine.
