1950's or 1960's Reynolds sousaphone summer repair

Postby bloke » Wed Aug 08, 2018 2:17 pm

Did I manage to find someone who had and would sell me a 60-year-old Reynolds sousaphone first branch?

yes.

Did I remove all of the replacement first branch's horrible dents (while sitting down working with magnets and listening to the radio), and re-round it's ends?

yes.

Did I get it swapped out for the one on the instrument that sported a 2-foot-long spider crack on one side and a 1-foot-long spider crack on the other side?

yes.

Did I manage to spot the body elbow pillar brace flange foot in precisely the same spot, EVEN THOUGH it was smushed in to the instrument, and I had to remove the dent from the 3rd branch AND from the flange?

yes.

Did I refinish the replacement 1st branch after Mrs. bloke and I soldered everything into place?

nope. I hit the solder joints with rattle-can paint. This is a summer repair. The buffing room (exhaust fan or no) is 90 degrees, and there are at least sixty more instruments sitting out there waiting to be undestroyed. :|
