Nah, Scottye is a low horn specialist, and she played 4th for most of her 16 years here until she retired a few years back. She played 3rd for a while, but never liked it. The 4th player and she switched chair assignments sometime around 2004 I think.
AH gotcha.

What's the secret to the finish on that Yamaha?

My PT7 is mostly raw brass... and will likely be all raw brass eventually. And yes, that's a very handsome look!

Nice stuff. I have Japanese motorcycles and know all about the mutant Phillips head screws. SOP on Japanese bikes is to replace all of the fasteners with SS hex head fasteners.

Hilton the Holton will be pretty nifty when it's done.

Thank you for posting the SmugMug albums! It is terrific to go through and see how the horn has evolved. I am sure you are really looking forward to having it completed along with the two CC horns and then your arsenal will be ready!

Thanks for the link to your pictures. One does not truly realize how many parts are involved in a tuba until one sees them all laid out together loosely. You have great patience.

While I have no skills in this area, I have followed your posts about this horn for the last three years. The amount of work and attention to detail that you have put in to it is staggering. My take on this is, If you go ahead and then are driven mad by what you see that could have been fixed, then I would suggest going back and fixing what you feel is necessary. Otherwise, accept the horn for what it is and how you have already improved it. If you can be at peace with that, then carry on and finish the task. Your posts and pictures have been so informative and interesting to read. Do what is right for you.

Congratulations on your successes to this point. It is great that you were able to spend time thinking about what you had achieved and then confirmed through looking at the previous pictures that things are now correct! Keep rumbling to the finish line. I will bet that the horn will sound terrific and and more importantly you will be ready to be back in your chair in the symphony with your Holton 345 very quickly. Great job!

Dammit, Wade, I just read this entire thread, which I had not seen before (not having discovered this sub-forum), waiting for the payoff of the completed tuba, in front of the robust Mr. Elephant wearing white tie and tails, performing something like, oh, Mahler 1 with it. With its silver on the inside and lacquer on the outside.

But no. No closure at all.
