It was terrific to open up TubeNet this afternoon and see that you are back posting about your restoration projects! Keep up the great work and continue to post your photos and text. It is very much appreciated by those of us who frequent this particular area ( some having a great deal of skill such as yourself and others like me who do not have any )!

the elephant wrote:The leadpipe is the small/medium one used from about 1974 until they changed the design of the horn and the leadpipe and bell got larger. It is not what I had hoped for. However, I want to use this horn for quintet and recitals and such, so making the leadpipe connections removable will allow me to use all three and figure out which one I like the most. I have the 188 nickel silver pipe, the current 186 pipe and this 1974-ish small pipe.

This should be a barrel of laughs.
I like the response of the smaller lead pipe on my Bessophone. It has functioned just as well for quintet as for supporting a moderate sized concert band. You may like it also, although I do understand having a fitting so you can have options.

Do they (Wessex) have any particular parts they sell? Or will they sell any part from any of their horns? Because I might be in need of some crooks for my 5th valve on my Eb project...

I'm really glad to hear that you are getting past the frustration of the car having been messed up first by a dear then by an obviously ignorant mechanic, and that your health is improving. We will now look forward to further chapters on the "twins" rebirth!

I've been spending a lot of time in the horizontal position too over the past few weeks - first with a bad fall (not good when you have twin knee replacements) and now just getting over an awful urinary tract problem.

Best of health to you.

I applaud your tenacity and willingness to find another solution! All because someone was too damn lazy to find the correct item to use. We all look forward to your continuing reports on the "Dueling 186s". Your reports are the #1 reason why I check in on TubeNet. Carry on!

A tuba has lots of parts. Two tubas have even more.
