As the title says - matched tubing, .787 (20 mm) inside bore, preferably in brass.

A source for crooks would be a plus!

You might look for a hopelessly trashed Amati/Cerveny 4/4 rotary tuba...

Definite possibility, thanks bloke - I'll keep my eyes open.

Any ideas on a supplier of new tubing (Allied, or the like?)

Allied offers Conn sousaphone brass outside slide tubing that is .784" i.d.

The o.d. is .823", so some 21mm i.d. outside slide tubing would only be subtly loose.

If you could indeed locate some 21mm i.d. tubing (Meinlschmidt, if nowhere else), soldering little squares of sheet brass over the ends of the .784" i.d. brass tubing and double or triple copper plating it would probably address the subtle looseness (were there indeed any looseness experienced).

Though Meinlschmidt probably mostly deals with nickel-silver tubing these days, you could just ask them if they would sell you a matched pair of 20mm/21mm i.d. tubes, and be done with it. Heck...?? Maybe they could supply brass. They probably also could scare up some crooks...no...not the type you see on news shows, but SLIDE crooks.
