Dear Tubanet troops,
Thanks LJV for posting the nice comment. It’s good to know that there are some good people out there.
This comment has more weight because I did not ask him to write it.
Just a quick note to say that there has been a lot of interest in the horn. I will work with the winning bidder to get the tuba to them as safely and as cheaply as possible. I will not profit from shipping costs. I’m a tuba player myself and I know what it’s like. However I must be honest, things in Switzerland compared to the US/Canada are much more expensive which includes shipping. I really wish there were a Greyhound terminal in Geneva. There are not as many choices here in Switzerland for shipping. There are UPS and DHL which quoted $750 US for shipping which should arrive in about 10 days and the other is the Swiss Post which quoted delivery in 1 to 2 weeks for $450 US and via boat for $300 US in about a month. There is also the possibility to send it via aircargo which is also in the $700 US range. You’ll then have to pick it up at an airport.
(These were the quotes that I have found out – and may be different from the final cost.)
Please keep in mind that you may be charged customs which I would estimate to be not more than about $300 depending on the declared value. The insured value and the declared value must be the same. This will have to be paid to the shipping company in the US when you pick up the horn.
Another option is that I might be going to the NYC area around the end of Jan / early Feb where I can carry the tuba with me. I’m usually charged $300 for overweight with Continental. and I can walk it through customs in person and then send it to the final destination via Greyhound.
If you’re in Canada maybe I’ll drive up to Quebec if there isn’t too much snow. (La bière « La fin du Monde » me manque.)
If you are in Europe I’m willing to drive within a 1000 Km radius to deliver you the tuba.
If you are in Japan or Australia , I’ll gladly accompany the tuba if you’re willing to pay for the flight.
Or, if you want to come to Switzerland and pick up the tuba yourself I will be glad to welcome you here.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns, I’ll be happy to answer them. Don’t be discouraged by the shipping fees because it’s not often that you can find a Hirsbrunner tuba in any key for under $3000 so take this chance while you have it !
