Re: What is this?
I've seen several rotary helicons. But since the tubing before the bell points up and then out that makes this a sousaphone.....right? I mean. That was what first popped into my mind. The body section looks a lot like a helicon but since the bell and last section of of the body are angled like that i thought it was a sousaphone. This is a sousaphone right? now I'm all kinds of confused
(leave it to the tuba player). ok so back to the original question. Is there a rotary sousaphone and if so is this one original or home made?

Re: What is this?
If I were to wager a guess...
In the last couple years, there have been companies taking mediocre F rotary bass trombones, putting a 90 degree bend in the middle, and calling them a Cimbasso to jump on the (admittedly still in its infancy) cimbasso craze.
Perhaps those same companies, a hundred years ago, were taking their helicons and just bending the bell forward and flaring it out to jump on the Sousaphone craze???

I don't doubt it for a second, but it doesn't detract from it being a huge boar.Donn wrote:OK, that's cute, but in case you don't know, fake.k001k47 wrote: liek dis?

Re: What is this?
Of course it does...duh. There's no way to know what size the boar really is...is could be an average size or even below average...it's been blown up to a disproportionate size...that's what makes it a fake. What a strange thing to say.k001k47 wrote:I don't doubt it for a second, but it doesn't detract from it being a huge boar.Donn wrote:OK, that's cute, but in case you don't know, fake.k001k47 wrote: liek dis?

This picture and caption of a rotary Keefer is from the Tuba Exchange historical tuba site.
