Kruse CC 4RV

Yes, Kruse. Kruspe would have been much more likely, but I googled Wilhelm Kruse and found a violin maker in Markneukirchen. I tend to think it is a stencil made to expand the Kruse catalogue lineup. Likely made by a predecessor of B&S or by one of the masters later forced to join B&S.

Better stay away from that one! It's listed as a CC tuba but looks to be a BBb except for the butchered 1st branch and main tuning slide.

THERE IS NO MAIN TUNING SLIDE!

Otherwise... it definitely appears to be a B & S stencil.

I had wondered about the leadpipe, but my focus had been on the name issue.

As I now read this instrument, it was originally in BBb. Now cut to CC with a relatively short tuning leadpipe.

The links provided by me are not about promoting or endorsing any product, unless specifically so written, which very rarely happens. Rather I use eBay as a visual source for tuba and other brass history.

WOW! It's already sold! Maybe someone in Spain bought it.

It's going to be a chore for someone to make it playable. If the buyer wants to keep it in CC... I think all of the valve circuits are going to have to be cut.

Planned closing time was (Jan 02, 2013 13:00:10 PST) like in California. I joined the US eBay first so that is my default time reference unless I log in at another continent.

For reasons unknown to me there were a very strong representation of German and Czech tubas in pre-WWII Spain. Reportedly many of these were kept working until at least around 1990, and as we see here: sometimes up until today.

This tuba was made 25 or more years before B&S was formed, but as said above, this tuba looks like made by a predecessor of B&S.
