It was a success! I've listed it up for sale on the auction site. I'm impressed with how well it plays... Pardon the playing in the video... It was just me messing around, playing some made up stuff to show the usefulness of the horn.

I'd like to see some of the pre-fix pics to compare. Sounds nice in the vid. Best of luck selling!

Re: My Holton Sousa experiment in brass repair
Here's the listing where I bought it in December. Note that the area on the larger bow with black tape was FLATTEND, Area where mouthpipe receiver was taped was rotten and cracked, random piece of electrical conduit was used to couple them together, gooseneck was bent and had random piece of brass wrapped around it and soldered on to cover crack in bend, no bell screws, home made brace on 3rd slid loop and more!Nick Lukefahr wrote:I'd like to see some of the pre-fix pics to compare. Nice work. What did you use to buff/remove the tarnish on the body?

Re: My Holton Sousa experiment in brass repair
After experimentation with ammonia(nasty!) I found kaboom will brighten tarnished brass... But it leaves a haze not brute and shiny. So I spend some time after removing the giant dents buffing with a stiff muslin buff and tripoli. Then Brasso as well. I decided that without a dent machine I would just be pushing the metal out to much and called it good on this one. If I had a dent machine I would smooth out the branches more and maybe do a full buff. Buffing is hard work and seriously under appriciated by most. When I look at a shiny new tuba I just think of the time that went into the finish!
