Re: Mirafone recording bell
Recording bells are sort of out of vogue but still have a practical purpose for outdoor/oom-pah/Dixieland stuff.
At 19.5".... this one is for a Miraphone 186. That can be further verified by asking the seller if the tenon is 6 5/8" diameter.

Re: Mirafone recording bell
Upright detachable bells for Miraphone tubas are fairly rare. The bulk of all models of Miraphones I've seen had either a fixed upright bell or a detachable recording bell.
I currently have two Miraphone 186's with detachable recording bells here that came out of a school in North Carolina a while back.

Re: Mirafone recording bell
Oh... It certainly could have been original. I think the biggest reason why the recording bells were detachable was simply from the transportation/storage point of view.hrender wrote:His was the only one I've seen with both an upright and a front detachable bell. It's possible it was something other than a Miraphone, although I recall that was what our conductor (also my high school orchestra teacher) said it was when I asked him about it.TubaTinker wrote:Upright detachable bells for Miraphone tubas are fairly rare.
