Barrington TU401

Post by Minkrott »

I am within driving distance, and this seems like a fairly good deal?? What concerns should I have when looking at this? I already have a MW20 and a Yamaha YBB104, so my initial concerns are intonation and value after repairs. Should I be concerned about the brand?

Are you just looking for a smaller horn? If not, it would make more sense to get this one:

and have it fixed up. I've never played that model Barrington, but my Sonora is the same horn as the Old Rotor Tuba shown in that auction, and I agree with TubaTinker's opinion of it.

If you don't have a good brass repair shop near Dayton, TubaTinker is located in southern Indiana. It would be a bit of a hike, but he knows these horns well.

Thanks Bloke. The craigslist ad has more pictures and points out the bell denting. I am really surprised that it happened multiple times for your friend. I am not willing to accept that risk. It kind of ruins that shiny new finish.
