Yup... that's one skinny BBb tuba!
There's no barometer to get a feel for size. But... I think it's laying on a sheet of Microfoam and I'm guessing the 'bars' in the foam are about 5/8" wide.

Could this the a "Trombonium"? I think one of the manufacturers (King?) made a trombonium in the past.

I agree with Dan. It's a small Bb tuba. two loops in the big bugle, and the first and second slides look to be the right length for a Bb. And I've seen another one like it. FWIW, Ed

Nope. King tromboniums had 3 piston valves and a front-facing bell. The Big Ben wrote:Could this the a "Trombonium"? I think one of the manufacturers (King?) made a trombonium in the page.

I know nothing about this unit, but I was there, I would. All I know is, I've seen some skinny tubas, pictures anyway, but even then they had some bell flare or something. This is just skinny. My guess is, it's an interesting looking piece of junk?

I saw one instrument like this at German ebay a couple of years ago. It was very vaguely described as a tuba..., but the seller pointed out that it had been used in the local trombone choir. So, well...

Looks like the jinbao JBBB300 BBb tuba. They are really good although the bell looks a little smaller in the throat. Really good tubas by the way but not at this price.

The bell and throat don't look much bigger than a Miraphone Bb contrabone; I'd like to try it!

I have played one of these before. Stuffy stuffy stuffy. I saw no real use for it and the one I played had four valves.

Throwing in another picture of a large and slender conical brass instrument:
This gentleman is holding an "ophikleide."
Maybe a little irony, in that the ophicleide survives at least in memory as a brass bass with holes instead of valves - despite later attempts like the above to recycle the name for a valved instrument - but the cimbasso's origins as a brass bass with holes has been more or less forgotten.
